Thermal management is one of the most critical design considerations when producing a solid state lighting fixture because both LED lifetime and light output efficiency are inversely proportional to the temperature of the LED. The hotter the LED the less light it emits and the shorter its life.
The three things affecting LED junction temperature are thermal path, drive current and ambient temperature. In general, the higher the drive current, the greater the heat generated at the die. Heat must be moved away from the die in order to maintain expected light output, life, and colour. The amount of heat that can be removed depends upon the ambient temperature and the design of the thermal path from the die to the surroundings.
We can support your design process with the application of "best practice" thermal management techniques and help you achieve a thermally optimal product.
We can assist with design and sourcing of the full range of thermal management products including standard and custom heatsinks, thermal interface materials (gaskets, greases, tapes) and thermal adhesives.
